If water splashing or messes are a concern, you may want to find a sink with a backsplash that you can caulk. It slopes down from either side, but not from the front and back, so it doesn't drain quite as well as a round sink (it's a little easier for toothpaste to sit on the bottom of it and not find it's way forward to the drain). Still, we like the sink."
