"I installed this in the kitchen, and was happy to find that it was just bright enough to make it easy to grab a glass of water, but also didn't make it appear as if the room was permanently lit up - the quality of the light keeps it from reflecting around and illuminating the whole room, and rather just adds enough visibility to the area to allow you to see things. This won't be much of an issue in a brightly lit room with decent sunlight, or if you tend to keep your lights on during the day, but in my relatively dark, indirectly sun-lit kitchen (under the cabinets as well), I found that the lights would typically stay on at half brightness during the day. Not distinguishable from a normal faceplate at first glance, and only noticeable when looked at closely. - Light sensor is less visible than expected. - Light quality is clean, modern, and aesthetically pleasing (it IS more of a cool, white light, versus a warm, nightlight glow - I like this, but to each their own). - Customer service is fantastic! CONS: - Depending upon your outlet, you might have to move the outlets a little within the box so that the prongs can fit. - Sensor is potentially a little too sensitive - can stay on during the day in a dimly lit room. - Light sensor could still be less noticeable (perhaps on the top or side of the faceplate), but it's not something you'll regularly notice. - Light quality is cooler and towards the white-blue side of the spectrum (as with all LEDs) - could be warmer for some people's preference, but I personally like it (looks more modern). However, having said that, the lamp is lovely. Do not wash or clean with water or detergents, If not in use for a long period of time, store the lamp in a cool, dry environment, covering the crystals with a plastic bag. The lamp may naturally moisten in humid environments - saying further that if you use in a humid environment leave the lamp on for several hours to naturally dry out (I'm thinking like in a bathroom?). It says if the salt crystals become moist - gently pat down with a clean dry cloth - also noting not to clean the bowl with any organic or other solvents or it may become damaged. I personally chose the bowl style of salt crystal because salt may draw moisture and I wanted it contained instead of dripping off a free standing rock without containment. I still believe these salt lamps are a really good buy."

Nest's no-button design is cool, but using a thermostat is not a lecture in UX minimalism, and black-and-chrome doesn't really disappear into the background of my home (white trim and all). Granted, we didn't also install a second Nest to have more temperature sensors, and we didn't buy their $200 talking smoke detectors which also report environmental statistics back to the thermostat. Most people won't care about this but being a network security engineer, I'm impressed that the thermostat has exactly 0 open TCP ports, outbound communication is with one IP, and total traffic is very modest."

I had been wanting to get a WiFi Thermostat for a long time now, but I held off because I was worried that I would buy one that wouldn't be compatible with my home or that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to install it. You select the wires that your current thermostat has, and then the app tells you what to label them and where they will go in the new thermostat. I had never replaced a thermostat before, and it took me under 30 minutes (which includes unboxing, looking for screwdriver, looking for AC unit shut off switch, watching how-to videos included with the app, etc). The app is handy because it also tells you your local Hi and Low temps from the forecast as well as the humidity in your home, upcoming schedule, set temp, actual temp, and the background is either blue, red, or grey depending on if your system is on Cool, Heat, or off at the moment. The only thing this is missing is a few more advanced options for the app, such as specific alerts (like if the temperature is changed manually, I would like to be able to get an instant alert on my phone) and an air filter change reminder that can be set for a certain amount of time (like 1, 2, or 3 months)."
